Why Buffalo Swim Academy?
Lesson Program
Our lessons are different from your typical swim lesson in the area! We do not teach lessons with 4+ children in one session, and put a heavy emphasis on independent swimming or floating by the end of the summer! We felt most lessons in the area only provided water acclimation skills, while our lessons teach this, along with essential water safety and swim skills. All of our instructors are highly skilled professionals, with diverse and varied experience proficiently teaching children of all ages and abilities to swim. We are all extremely passionate about teaching and connecting with every child we get the opportunity to work with!
Our lessons are flexible based on the child's age and current ability, as well as parent goals. We put a strong emphasis on open parent communication, and teach you (the parent) how to practice the important skills taught by the instructor with your child!
Lessons are structured similarly each week, with different progressive goals emphasized each lesson. Our lesson programs typically span 10-weeks with an option for 30 minute private lessons (per child) once or twice weekly. Although this may not seem like a lot of time, you'd be surprised how productive we are in just one 30 minute session!

What will my child learn?
-
In general, ages
-
1-2: Will learn basic water safety skills and water comfort that will set them up for success. Some of these skills include working on basic motor skills (entering and exiting the pool, wall crawl, swimming or gliding and grabbing on to the wall, etc). We begin to introduce proper floating habits and kicking. Breath control and gentle underwater submersions are also important components of lessons at this age.
-
2-3: At this age, children will learn how to float independently and will begin swimming small distances underwater. We will introduce them to the swim-float-swim sequence and reinforce or learn water safety habits, ensuring they know what to do if they were to fall into a pool or body of water. Many kids this age are either proficient in their swim-float-swim sequence or on their way to be by the end of our 10 lessons!
-
3+: We will learn everything discussed above, with the goal for each swimmer to be 100% independent in the water. Once each swimmer is proficient in their swim-float-swim sequence, we then introduce pop-up breathing, “doggy paddle scoops,” and some stroke work.
